As per the agreement to provide food assistance worth Rs.23 million in April, the government of Japan is providing 10,000 tons of rice to the needy population living in the food deficient and insurgency affected districts of Nepal.
Notes to ferry the rice to Nepal will be signed between Nepal Food Cooperation and a Japanese contractor on Friday, reports said.
The government of Japan, which had been providing food aid to Nepal since 1980, had stopped the aid for the last three years. Earlier in 2001, Japan had extended food support of 9,000 tons rice.
The rice will be procured and sold at an affordable price to the needy living in the food deficient areas.
